St Peter’s Cathedral Church has about 120 children aged between 3 years and 18 years. Every Sunday usually has two services in accordance with the church services schedule, with the Sunday school service parallel to both services.
We have about seven teachers who are involved in the children's ministry; planning activities and teaching during the service. Mrs. Faith Muriuki is the Sunday School Coordinator and the liaison between the Sunday school teachers and the board.
There is a Sunday School Board composed of 15 members led by the Chairman, Mr. Gachugi Wambugu, the Patron Rev. Julia Mwangi, and the Vicar, Archdeacon Mwangi Waweru. The treasurer is Lay Reader Michael Munene and the Secretary is the Sunday School Coordinator, Mrs. Muriuki. The board acts as the liaison between the Sunday School and the Church Council.
The Sunday activities include;
- Sunday service
- Conducting the Palm Sunday Service
- Fun day
- Teens’ excursion
- Teens’ conference, and
- The Vocational Bible School (VBS)
These activities are usually planned at the beginning of the year by the Sunday School Board in consultation with the Sunday school teachers.
There is a Sunday school program that is developed by the Diocese of Mt. Kenya West which guides the Sunday school lessons and provides the theme for the year. Each month has a topic of focus that carries throughout the month.
The theme for the year 2017 is taken from the book of John 15:12
“My command is this, 'Love each other as I have loved you.”In 2022 the Ministry carried the VBS Program which started on date 4 of April and ended on the 8th of April. The Theme for the VBS was taken from John 10:10 "Life In Abundance."
